Black Walnut Inn Wedding

Black Walnut Inn Wedding / Dundee, Oregon

It’s hard to believe you’re only an hour from Portland when you walk through the double doors of Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard. The hills of the Willamette Valley are covered in beautiful grapevines, and the sun hits differently when you’re out of the city. Maggie and Kevin decided to treat their wedding guests, most of whom flew from the east coast, to this special space perched above pinot noir and chardonnay grapes.

The history of Black Walnut Inn is a precious surprise, so I have to mention it! The owners’ dog, a golden retriever, caught the scent of another animal while on a walk, and when the owners chased down their pup on a deer trail, they came across an expansive vista of the rolling hills below. They had always wanted to start a bed and breakfast, and they realized this spot was perfect and magical.

Maggie got ready for her wedding in the company of her mom and sister, and Kevin spent the morning with his parents, brother, and a sweet little ring bearer with a quirky personality and the best toddler jokes. The morning was calm, and no one seemed to be in a hurry to rush into the next big event. Much of this was thanks to their wedding planner, Danielle, with Your Perfect Bridesmaid. She and her team ensured everything ran smoothly from the very beginning, and although you didn’t see much of Danielle throughout the day, she seemed to appear out of thin air whenever she was needed— a true talent!

For their wedding ceremony, a string quartet played classical songs as Maggie walked down the aisle with her father, and each mom shared readings as Maggie and Kevin stood in front of the rolling hills of the vineyard below. The classical music continued into cocktail hour, which was held on the East Patio, and old college roommates shared jokes as folks even FaceTimed in from other parts of the country.

Maggie and Kevin’s wedding reception and dinner was held on the South Patio, and long wooden tables were adorned with simple, classic stemware. The beautiful floral work of Caroline Ruesen added pops of color, and edison bulbs hanging above the space provided the perfect summer glow. Friends and family enjoyed bottles of wine and stories of growing up, and eventually everyone transitioned into the Cellar Room for dancing and late night music.

On their wedding day, Maggie and Kevin truly centered themselves around their families and their community. They weren’t wrapped up in a timeline, and rather than forcing moments to happen, they embraced them and sat with them when they did. There was no urgency or rush. There was a deep appreciation for the beauty in the rolling hills and the love in the stories shared by their guests. Their goal was to treat their friends and family.. the people they love most.. and they certainly did just that.
