Natalie & Justin’s Waverley Country Club Wedding in Portland, Oregon

Natalie and Justin’s September wedding at Waverley Country Club was one of those days that felt very Portland in the best way.. green, relaxed, a little timeless, and centered around having all of their favorite people in one place.

They’ve been together for around eight years, and when they first reached out, they told me their biggest priority was celebrating with the friends and family who had supported their relationship along the way. They both grew up in the Pacific Northwest and wanted the wedding to feel inspired by the place they still consider home. Waverley Country Club, tucked along the Willamette River just outside of downtown Portland, ended up being such a beautiful setting for it.

The ceremony took place outside beneath the trees, with the river just beyond the lawn. Natalie kept everything simple and classic, with a fitted ivory dress, soft florals, and bridesmaids in a mix of colors and prints. Justin wore a black tux, and together they somehow looked perfectly at home against all of the greenery at Waverley.

But what I loved most about this wedding was everything happening around them.

Natalie and Justin wanted their photography to feel candid and organic and to actually tell the story of the day, not just be a collection of portraits. With about 150 guests, there was so much to photograph: people hugging, laughing during speeches, kids weaving through the crowd, cocktails on the lawn, and friends and family genuinely having a really good time together. We photographed the day on both digital and film, including plenty of black-and-white film, which fit the feeling of the day especially well.

These two love skiing, traveling, and bluegrass music, and although they no longer live in Portland, they come back often to see family. Their wedding felt a little like coming home, too.

As a Portland wedding photographer, Waverley Country Club is one of those venues I always love returning to. It’s beautiful without feeling overly formal, and there are so many opportunities to step back, let things happen, and photograph a wedding exactly as it felt.
