“I’ve always envisioned an elegant, classic, romantic, moody winter wedding…” she wrote. And on December 28th, in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon, that vision unfolded beautifully at the iconic Benson Hotel.
Choosing the Benson wasn’t just about aesthetics, though the dark wood paneling, ornate chandeliers, and glowing gold details create an undeniably timeless atmosphere. Simon Benson is part of Hanna’s family history, which made the location feel personal and deeply meaningful. The Benson Hotel is a continuation of legacy for Hanna.. a place layered with story.
December in Portland carries a certain magic, and there’s an intimacy that only winter weddings seem to hold. Hanna and Owen leaned into that mood. Candlelight flickered across reception tables. Warm lighting filled the ballroom. Every detail complemented the rich interior architecture, turning the Benson into the perfect canvas Hanna had imagined from the start.
Their ceremony began around sunset, with daylight gently fading through the windows before giving way to the warm glow of chandeliers and candlelight. Shooting a mix of film and digital allowed for both softness and depth, preserving the atmosphere exactly as it felt: intimate and alive with emotion.
Earlier in the day, we captured brighter getting-ready moments, filled with anticipation. But as night settled in, the mood truly transformed. The dark wood interiors of the Benson Hotel helped in creating images that felt cinematic and timeless, and it was proof that an indoor romantic wedding doesn’tneed sunlight to shine.
Everything about this celebration came together seamlessly! The familial connection to the Benson Hotel, the intentional winter aesthetic, the thoughtful lighting design, and the joy that filled every room and everyone’s heart.
